Things I've built lately

Strategy is easier to trust when you can see it working. These are recent builds, each one planned, written and built by InkByte: live data, plain words and, where it fits, a joke.

For New Brighton Creative Futures CIC

Hello New Brighton: five apps for one seaside town

New Brighton has murals, beaches, pubs and a station at the end of the Merseyrail line. What it didn't have was one place to see what's open, when the next train goes and what's worth doing. So I built five small apps. They're free, with no ads and no sign-up. They share live train times, so every page answers the same question: how do I get here, and home again? And they point visitors' money at local businesses, with independents first and direct booking.

Built by InkByte for New Brighton Creative Futures CIC, pro bono, as part of my founder role.

In the press. The Wirral Globe and Wirral Today covered the live train board when it launched in October 2026. Across all its work, New Brighton Creative Futures logged 86 press items in 28 publications between July 2025 and October 2026, including the Liverpool Echo and the Wirral Globe. All of it earned, none of it paid for.

Awards. Highly Commended for Best Creative Business at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards 2026, and shortlisted in two categories at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2026.

Side projects

Built for fun, and to see how far open data and a sense of humour can go.

Bössman.live

The UK kebab index

More than 10,000 kebab, döner and shawarma shops on one map. Who's open (even at 2am), food hygiene ratings, a league table of towns, and a Bössman who's been turning the same döner spit since 1987. Built on open data from OpenStreetMap and the Food Standards Agency.

Is It Kicking Off?

The UK Aggravation Threat Index

How close is Britain, right now, to kicking off? One live reading from 0 to 100, built from 40 live and modelled signals: Met Office storm warnings, petrol prices across 14 retailers, sewage spills, the latest football results, kebab orders per second, McFlurry machine availability and the phase of the moon. Seven levels run from Having a Brew to All Out Scrap. It's satire, and it says so.

“I think it’s an absolute masterpiece.”

Books

  • Social Media and the Seven Deadly Sins
  • MEME POWER

I've written two books on digital culture: Social Media and the Seven Deadly Sins (2021) and MEME POWER (2024). The first took me on stage at Hamburg's Reeperbahn Festival Conference, by Zoom.
